NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Rachel Wong was the individual champion at the Walsh-Malone Invitational and the NAIA #21 Lady Jackets finished second in the nine-team meet hosted by Walsh University.
Cedarville added the event at the last minute hoping to boost its national ranking and hopefully the move paid off. NAIA #5 Malone won it with 20 points, the Jackets tallied 37, and Walsh was a distant 3rd with 101.
Wong covered the 5,000 meters in 18:10. She had a winning margin of 17 seconds leading a quintet of CU runners who broke the 19:00 barrier.
Neola Putnam was 7th in 18:35. She was closely followed by Hannah Lamos (8th, 18:36), Erica Hoff (9th, 18:36), and Grace Campbell (12th, 18:56).
Carolyn Case showed improvement for the second week in a row placing 14th in 19:08. Meghan Terrell was 16th in 19:15 in the race that totaled 91 competitors.
