Lady Jackets 10th in NCCAA

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Jessica Smith was the top finisher for Cedarville as the Lady Jackets finished 10th out of 21 schools in the NCCAA Women's Cross Country Championship at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Smith completed the 5,000 meters in 20:11 to place 40th out of 148 runners. The competitors were greeted by 55 weather with sunny and dry conditions.

Katie Lanphier was 50th in 20:35 while Jennifer Hollander finished 52nd in 20:38. Rounding out CU's line-up were Jasmin Banachowski (68th; 20:59), Laura Backer (74th; 21:16), Joanna Wheatley (82nd; 21:34), and Tabby Moore (100th; 22:37).

Cedarville rested its top seven runners in preparation for next weekend's NAIA Championship in Vancouver, Wash.

Malone won the 21-team meet with 46 points. Indiana Wesleyan was the runner-up with 51 points and Colorado Christian was third with 128.

Six Lady Jackets were recognized as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes which are juniors and seniors, who maintain a minumum 3.40 cumulative grade point average. CU representatives were Backer, Hollander, Lanphier, Hannah Rodriguez, Rachel Thompson, and Rachel Wong.
