Lady Jackets fall in PK's at MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - #4 seed Mount Vernon Nazarene eliminated #5 Cedarville from the American Mideast Conference Tournament by advancing on penalty kicks in a first-round match.

The teams played scoreless soccer through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. That forced a result via PK's with each team getting five attempts and the Cougars moving on by a 3-2 count.

Officially, the contest goes down as a draw. Cedarville, 7-10-2 overall, had the edge statistically by outshooting MVNU 21-9 overall and 9-5 in shots on goal. The Cougars are 12-5-1.

Alysia Bennett made five saves and posted her sixth shutout of the season. She became CU's all-time leader in shutouts with 12 by surpassing the old mark of 11 set by Melissa Fawcett from 2000-03.

The Lady Jackets entered the season just 1-9-1 against Mount Vernon Nazarene in the all-time series between the two schools. However, Cedarville won 1-0 in double overtime on the Cougars' field on Oct. 26 and forged a scoreless draw there 11 days later.
