Harner, Jackets bag victory at Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. - Matt Harner poured in 26 points and NAIA Division II #14 Cedarville outlasted Daemen, 80-78, in an American Mideast Conference Tournament semifinal game. Next up is a trip to Notre Dame (Ohio) for the title contest on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets, 24-8 overall, were able to win for the 14th time in the last 15 games despite struggling from the free throw line. Yet, it was the charity stripe that held off the host Wildcats, who were left to hit a meaningless three-pointer at the buzzer to account for the final.

Cedarville took the lead for good, 39-37, when Derrick Hannon drilled a 15-foot jumper just before the halftime buzzer. The Jackets methodically pushed the difference out to 12 points on two separate occasions the last of which was 70-58 with six minutes left.

Daemen, who finishes the season 18-13, scrambled back to as close as three at the 2:10 mark. However, CU was in the process of converting eight free throws in the final three minutes to secure the win.

Hannon finished with 14 points and four assists while Ricardo Alliman netted 13 points in just 21 minutes before fouling out. Cedarville made only 11-of-21 free throws in the second period and was 18-of-32 for the game for 56 percent. However, the Jackets shot 58 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes. [STATS]
