INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - David Convertini and Chris Ward drove in four runs each while winning pitcher Luke Freshwater tossed eight strong innings to lead Cedarville to a 12-6 victory at Indianapolis in a non-conference game.
The Yellow Jackets, 14-4 overall, never trailed once Convertini delivered a two-run single in the first inning against the NCAA Division II Greyhounds, who brought a nine-game winning streak into the contest.
Although Indianapolis answered with two runs in its first at bat for a 2-2 tie, CU took the advantage for good when Rob Nesteroff ripped a two-run triple in the second. Ward, who was playing in his hometown, drilled a two-run homer in the third for his first collegiate round tripper.
The Yellow Jackets had a slim 7-6 lead through seven innings before putting things out of reach with a five-run eighth. A two-run double by Convertini and a two-run triple by Ward were the big blows.
Freshwater made his second start of the season and lasted eight-plus innings. He allowed five earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk.
Convertini paced the 13-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with two doubles. Nesteroff had a pair of hits, scored twice, drove in two runs, and came on in relief to strike out the game's final batter with the bases loaded.
Nate Davenport had two doubles and scored two runs. Nate Wilson finished with two hits and two runs while Tyler Rost scored three times.
Indianapolis drops to 16-8 overall. [BOXSCORE]
