PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Nate Davenport drilled a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to give Cedarville a 10-9 win against John Carroll at the Snowbird Classic. The Yellow Jackets dropped a 12-11 decision earlier in the day to Capital.
CU's first two batters were routinely retired to begin the 9th. Davenport followed with his fourth homer of the season to end it. He finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in.
Dan Petke was 2-for-4 with a two-run single while Brandon Young tallied two hits. Alex Beelen tripled and scored twice, Derek Graham drove in two runs, and Tyler Rost added a triple, three walks, and two runs scored.
Winning pitcher Clint Price worked the final three innings to get the win. He struck out three and allowed one earned run as Cedarville improved to 4-3. [JOHN CARROLL BOXSCORE]
In the early game, Capital plated a run in the bottom of the 9th to finally defeat the Yellow Jackets for the first time in four meetings in Florida.
Cedarville made it interesting by scoring three times after two were out in the top of the final frame. David Convertini delivered a run-scoring double and Davenport busted a two-run homer to tie it, 11-11. The Crusaders got a two-out RBI single to end it.
