Home runs galore! Jackets garner split at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio - It was a hitters' paradise with the wind blowing out at Urbana where the host Blue Knights and Cedarville split a non-conference doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets won the nightcap, 12-6, after dropping the opener, 12-8.

The two teams combined for 17 extra base hits on the day including an incredible 10 home runs. Urbana hammered six long balls against a CU pitching staff that had surrendered just three for the season coming in.

David Convertini hit a three-run bomb in the second game as Cedarville bolted to a 9-0 lead after two at bats. The Blue Knights came back to within 9-6, but the Jackets put the contest away with a three-run 6th inning.

Rob Nesteroff had three hits including a double and scored two runs. Derek Graham went 3-for-4 while Paul Hembekides added two hits for Cedarville, 17-8 overall.

#T.J. Taylor# pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and was credited with the victory to square his record at 2-2. He allowed five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Urbana is 12-12. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

The Blue Knights unloaded four home runs to win the first game. The Yellow Jackets got off to a good start, however, with a four-run first inning. Nate Davenport drilled a three-run shot for his team-leading 7th homer of the season and Brandon Young followed with his first of the year.

Urbana bounced back with two runs in its first at bat and six more in the 2nd inning. A four-run 4th made it a 12-5 cushion.

Convertini hit a solo homer. Young finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's and Hembekides was 3-for-4. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
