SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Chris Ward drove in three runs to support the strong pitching of Luke Freshwater to lead Cedarville to a 6-4 non-conference victory at Wittenberg.
Ward's biggest hit came in the 9th inning on a two-run double that proved to be the difference. Rob Nesteroff walked with two outs and then stole second before Derek Graham walked. Ward followed with his third double of the season to score both runners and give the Yellow Jackets a 6-2 lead. The host Tigers answered with two runs in their final at bat to account for the final.
Freshwater tossed 8 2/3 innings and improved his record to 3-0. He allowed four earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Graham was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI double. Ward finished with two hits which included a run-scoring single for the Yellow Jackets, 21-12 overall.
Nesteroff doubled and stole a base. He also came on in relief to record the final out to get credit for a save.
Wittenberg drops to 9-17 on the year despite outhitting Cedarville in the contest, 10-9. [BOXSCORE]
