Cedarville deals Bears first AMC loss

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Dan Petke had two hits including an RBI triple and winning pitcher Matthew Willett tossed a complete game to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 6-4 win over Shawnee State, who was previously unbeaten in the American Mideast Conference. The Bears throttled CU, 14-3 in the opener of the doubleheader.

Petke tripled home Chris Ward in the 4th inning to knot the score at 3-3. Pinch runner Kyler King came across with the go ahead run on a base hit by Andrew York and the Jackets added a couple of insurance runs in the 5th.

Willett allowed six hits and struck out three in seven innings while improving to 4-2 on the season. Nate Davenport tallied two hits including a double for Cedarville, 22-16 overall and 6-10 AMC.

Shawnee State leaves town 22-20 and 11-1 AMC. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

The first game lasted just five innings thanks to the 10-run mercy rule. The Bears jumped out to a 6-0 edge, CU cut the deficit in half, and Shawnee scored eight times in the 5th inning to end it.

York and Rob Nesteroff each recorded a pair of hits. Petke hammered a two-run homer, but the Yellow Jackets were "run-ruled" for the first time this spring. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
