CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets exploded for eight runs in the 2nd inning to support the eight-inning performance of starting pitcher Matthew Willett for a 9-4 non-conference victory against Urbana. Cedarville took two-of-three games in the two-day series versus the Blue Knights.
Trailing 1-0, the Yellow Jackets crossed the plate eight times in their second at bat nearly every way imaginable. Andrew York was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game. Tyler Rost singled off the pitcher's glove for the go ahead run and Rob Nesteroff following with an RBI single to right field.
Alex Beelen's fielders choice grounder was thrown away at the plate for a two-run error. Nesteroff scored on a wild pitch, David Convertini singled up the middle for another run, and pinch runner Sam Rowe completed the scoring by racing home on a passed ball.
That was as much help as Willett would need. He improved to 2-1 allowing three earned runs in eight innings on nine hits. He struck out four and walked four.
Cedarville, 18-8 overall, got its other run in the 4th inning. Nate Davenport singled wide of third base to bring in Nesteroff.
Rost finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Nesteroff had two runs while Chris Ward doubled and scored.
Cedarville took advantage of 12 walks in the three-game series. The Jackets also had 11 batters total hit by a pitch with Beelen getting plunked four times. Urbana drops to 12-13. [BOXSCORE]
