Bluffton drills Jackets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Bluffton hammered out 16 hits featuring five for extra bases as the NCAA Division III Beavers had little problem in chewing up Cedarville, 13-3, in a non-conference game.

Bluffton came to town looking anything like a 10-18 team in the midst of a four-game losing streak. The Beavers pounded the ball to all fields with authority legging out three triples and a pair of doubles.

The visitors already enjoyed a 5-0 lead on nine hits before the Yellow Jackets registered their first base hit. It came on a pinch hit grounder through the left side of the infield off the bat of Andrew York with two outs in the 5th inning.

It really got out of hand in the 6th when Bluffton sent 13 batters to the plate and exploded for eight runs to make it a rout. The first two batters of the frame were retired, but the Beavers followed with a hit batter, a walk, four singles, a double, and two triples.

It was 13-0 before CU dented the plate. The game was halted after seven innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

York and Chris Ward had two hits apiece for the Jackets, 22-17 overall. Bluffton improves to 11-18. [BOXSCORE]
