ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - David Convertini returned to the line-up with a vengeance, but the Yellow Jackets dropped two American Mideast Conference games at last-place Point Park, 9-6 and 10-6.
Convertini, last year's Team MVP, missed the last eight games because of an appendectomy, yet looked like he hadn't missed a beat. He went 6-for-7 in the twinbill with two home runs, two doubles, and three RBI's. It still wasn't enough.
Nine roundtrippers total were belted in the tiny ballpark. The host Pioneers hit a pair in the opener and seven of their 15 hits went for extra bases.
Cedarville countered with seven hits. Rob Nesteroff hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs total while Andrew York added a two-run home run. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
Convertini hammered a two-run bomb in his first at bat of the night cap. However, a six-run 2nd inning propelled PPU to a 7-2 lead.
Nate Davenport answered with a grand slam for his team-leading ninth home run to cut the deficit to 7-6. That's all the scoring the Yellow Jackets would get as they lost for the seventh time in the last eight games to fall to 22-19 overall and 6-12 AMC.
Convertini and Tyler Rost were each 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Point Park is 11-26 overall and 4-18 AMC. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
