Ohio Northern outlasts Yellow Jackets, 8-7

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Northern overcame a late rally by Cedarville which sent the game into extra innings to pull out an 8-7 non-conference victory.

The Polar Bears, who improved to 16-3 overall, got a lead off home run in the 10th inning which was their third solo shot of the contest. The visitors came out with the victory when the Yellow Jackets stranded their 14th base runner of the game to end the contest.

Cedarville, 18-9, entered the bottom of the 9th trailing 7-6, but forced extra innings by rallying after the first two batters were retired.

Chris Ward singled through the left side and later stole second. He scored the tying run when Paul Hembekides delivered a base hit up the middle on a 3-2 pitch. The Jackets had a chance to get the win, but they left the bases loaded for the second time in the game.

Ward finished 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs scored, and three stolen bases while Hembekides was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI's. Nate Wilson was 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored as the bottom three in the order were collectively 7-for-11 and scored five times.

Nate Davenport doubled twice, scored two runs, and stole home as part of a double steal. It was only the second loss in 10 homes games for Cedarville this spring. [BOXSCORE]
