Wise, CU edge Malone, 1-0

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Kelly Wise tucked in the game's only goal as the Lady Jackets began American Mideast Conference action with a 1-0 victory against Malone.

Wise broke the scoreless deadlock in the 37th minute. She received a pass from Amanda Bunton near the top of the 18-yard line and sent a low shot just inside the far post. It was the 23rd career goal for Wise which is fifth on CU's all-time list.

Alysia Bennett was called upon to make two saves for her second shutout of the season. Cedarville, 2-4 overall, ended a three-match losing streak by outshooting the Pioneers 12-7 overall and 6-2 in shots on goal.

The Lady Jackets notched the victory despite not having the full services of their three returning two-time all-conference players. Wise and Lacie Condon only appeared during the final 10 minutes of the first half while Kelsey Watkins was not in uniform.

John McGillivray inserted four freshmen into his starting line-up. Malone still leads the season series 10-4-2, but Cedarville has won the last three in a row.
