Lady Jackets rip Carlow, 5-0

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Jaimie Watkins registered a pair of goals with an assist and the Lady Jackets blew open a tight match in the second half to bury Carlow, 5-0, in American Mideast Conference play.

The two teams played on level terms for the bulk of the first period until Dresden Matson scored her first goal of the season in the 28th minute. Watkins' corner kick found Matson's foot at the far side of the penalty area, who blasted the shot in. It was 1-0 at the intermission.

Cedarville, 3-4 overall and 2-0 AMC, got some breathing room in the 53rd minute. Kelly Wise left the ball at the top of the box for Watkins, who lifted a high shot into the net for a two-goal advantage.

The Lady Jackets controlled the second half as evidenced by a 15-2 shot advantage. They broke it open with three goals in the final 10 minutes.

Amanda Bunton tapped in a cross from Anna Schmid in the 82nd minute. Watkins cleaned up a loose ball unassisted three minutes later for her fourth score of the campaign. Morgan Ziegler converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to wrap it up.

Alysia Bennett made three saves and nailed down her third shutout this fall. CU outshot the Celtics 23-4 overall and 15-3 on goal. Carlow drops to 2-4 and 0-3 AMC.
