CU women take Friendship title

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rachel Wong set the pace with a 3rd-place finish and the NAIA #24 Lady Jackets won the 20th Friendship Invitational at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Cedarville totaled 60 points while NAIA #19 Indiana Wesleyan was the runner-up with 83 points. Denison was 3rd in the 12-team field with 99 points.

Wong covered the 5,000 meters in 18:59. She was the Lady Jackets' #1 runner for the second straight outing.

Hannah Lamos was 9th in 19:23 and Neola Putnam was 11th in 19:25. Erica Hoff placed 13th in 19:28 while Grace Campbell also broke the 20-minute barrier with a 19:45 effort to finish 24th.

Jessica Smith (40th; 20:23) and Jennifer Hollander (44th; 20:32) rounded out CU's top seven. There were a total of 161 competitors.

It marked the 11th time that the women won their own invitational. However, the Jackets had won it only once (2006) in the past six years.
