CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Amanda Bunton and Rachel Brownfield scored the goals and the Lady Jacket defense did not yield a shot during a 2-0 non-conference victory against Rio Grande in the Cedarville Classic.
Bunton entered the match midway through the first half and quickly finished off a feed from Jill Carroll for the only goal the hosts would need.
It remained a one-goal differential until the 72nd minute. That's when Bunton created a scramble in the box and the ball ended up on Brownfield's foot. She tucked it inside the far post for a 2-0 lead.
Rio Grande, 1-1 overall, rarely threatened. Sophomore keeper Alysia Bennett gets credit for the shutout. Cedarville, also 1-1, outshot the RedStorm 13-0 overall and 10-0 in shots on goal.
Interestingly, the Lady Jackets set a single-match school-record with 18 corner kicks. It breaks the old mark of 16 set seven seasons ago against Grace. The zero shots allowed occurred one time previously against Huntington in 1997.
In the opening match of the day, Spring Arbor used a first-half goal to hang on for a 1-0 victory over Indiana Tech.
