PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - A week after being outplayed at home by Shawnee State, Cedarville went on the road and buried the Bears, 14-1, at their home park.
The Yellow Jackets won their fifth straight to improve to 18-6 overall. They accomplished the task by outhitting the hosts 13-3 and using two big innings in a contest that was eventually halted in the 7th inning by the 10-run mercy rule.
Cedarville broke a scoreless game in its second at bat by sending 11 men to the plate and scoring seven unearned runs. #Juan Martinez, Jr.#, Cameron McWilliams, and Alex Beelen struck for consecutive run-scoring singles to get things started.
Paul Hembekides followed with an RBI groundout and Nate Davenport added another RBI single. That was all winning pitcher Rob Nesteroff needed as he went the distance on a three-hitter to up his record to 2-1.
After tacking on a run in the 4th inning, the Jackets really blew it open with six more tallies in the 5th. The big blow was a two-run double by Davenport - his 15th two-base hit of the season. He finished 3-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
Beelen doubled as part of a 3-for-5 day with two runs scored and two RBI's. Andrew York contributed three hits and two RBI's while Hembekides had two hits and two runs driven in.
Shawnee State falls to 20-17. The Bears won at Cedarville, 11-5, on March 22.
