CU falls twice to Point Park

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - NAIA #25 Point Park erased Cedarville's American Mideast Conference playoff hopes by sweeping a doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets on Senior Day. The Pioneers won by scores of 14-0 and 3-1.

Heading into the twinbill, CU needed one of two things to happen in order to qualify for the three-team AMC Tournament. The Jackets had to take both games against Point Park, or otherwise, win one game and hope for Malone to lose twice at home to Mount Vernon Nazarene which it surprisingly did.

The day began on a congratulatory note. Head Coach Mike Manes honored graduating seniors Tyler Rost, #T.J. Taylor#, Rob Wasem, and Andrew York in pre-game ceremonies.

Everything went wrong in the opener for the hosts. Point Park scored four times in the first inning and cruised from there. The Jackets were outhit 15-3 and committed five errors in the field in a forgettable performance.

The Pioneers took early control of the nightcap as well with two runs in the first inning. They added a key run in the third on a stolen base and back-to-back throwing errors by the Jackets.

Cedarville, 30-16 and 10-10 AMC, scored its only run of the day in the second when designated hitter David Ledbetter drove in Nate Davenport with a single. Ledbetter had two of the Jackets' seven hits.

Freshman righthander Ryan Hayes was solid on the mound in a losing effort. He tossed all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits.

Point Park, 36-11 and 14-6, shares the AMC regular season title with Mount Vernon Nazarene.
