Cedarville bats silenced again

MASON, Ohio - The No. 4 seed Yellow Jackets struggled at the plate for the second game in a row at the NCCAA National Tournament in an 8-1 setback to No. 9 Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Cedarville came up with just four hits in falling to 0-2-1 in pool play in the 10-team event. They've produced only seven hits in the past two games combined.

The victorious Eagles banged out 14 hits and got all the offense they needed by scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning for a 3-0 lead.

In the meantime, the first 14 Yellow Jackets who came to the plate were retired in order. Rob Nesteroff busted up the perfect game with a clean single to right center field. CU eventually loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but came up empty.

The Jackets, 33-18-1, finally got on the board in the sixth. Paul Hembekides drew a one-out walk and scored one out later when Nate Davenport rapped his 25th double of the season resulting in his 60th RBI.

However, Oklahoma Wesleyan clinched the outcome by tacking on five runs in its half of the sixth. The Eagles improved to 3-0 in the tournament and 36-27 overall.
