Rost signs professional contract

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Former Yellow Jacket outfielder Tyler Rost has chosen to further his baseball career after signing a contract with the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League.

The Pecos League is an independent baseball league headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Rost was offered the contract last week by the Cowboys.  He showcased his skills at a summer tryout and was recently informed of the team's interest in him for the upcoming year.

Rost is looking forward to playing the game he loves for a living.

“Playing professional baseball has always been a dream of mine, and I'm so thankful that God has blessed me with this awesome opportunity,” Rost said.

Rost is set to report to spring training on April 30, 2012 and is looking forward to the opportunity to elevate his skills to the professional level.

“I've been working hard to get stronger and faster this off season.  I know if I'm going to adjust to professional ball, I'm going to have to improve my game.  I'm looking forward to the challenge.”

Rost celebrated a decorated career with the Jackets.  In his four years of action, he set school records in games played, games started, and at bats.  Rost also holds program all-time highs in hits (209), runs (138), and walks (125).  His .334 career batting average ranks 12th all-time in Yellow Jacket history.

Rost was named to the 2011 NCCAA All-America Second Team and was a first-team all region selection.
