Box Score CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - The Yellow Jackets broke out to a big early lead, rapped out 15 hits total, and then had to squelch a Salem International rally to come away with an 8-7 win in a non-conference night game.
The two teams will complete their three-game weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
Cedarville, 13-7 overall, started quickly in the first inning.
Logan Kasabian delivered a run-scoring a single and
Tyler Hurt came through with a three-run double.
RBI singles by
Chris Fox in the fifth inning and
Dan Larkin in the sixth made it a 6-1 bulge. However, the Tigers made it interesting with two runs in the sixth and two unearned tallies in the seventh to shave the difference to 6-5.
Fox tacked on a huge two-run single in the ninth. Those insurance runs came in handy as SIU scored twice in its last at bat and left two runners on base to account for the 8-7 final.
Winning pitcher
David Ledbetter, 3-4, and
Sean Larkin combined to strike out 16 Tigers. Ledbetter fanned 12 in seven innings of work while Larkin whiffed four in notching his second save of the season.
Five different Yellow Jackets registered at least two hits led by
Cam McWilliams with three. Fox had two hits with three RBI's.
Kasabian added two hits and two runs scored. Other two-hit efforts came from
Dan Larkin and
David Lenhardt.
Ryan Ledbetter was hit-by-pitch twice and scored twice.
