Box Score MASON, Ohio - No. 5 Southeastern manufactured a first-inning run and made it hold up for a 1-0 victory over the No. 8 Yellow Jackets in the second game of pool play at the NCCAA Division I World Series.
The two teams continued their history of low-scoring NCCAA games and this time it was the Fire, who pulled out the one-run win.
Southeastern, 37-28 overall, scored its run after the first two batters were retired in the bottom of the first. A walk, a hit batter, and a seeing-eye single up the middle was all the Fire needed.
Each team managed only three hits apiece. Cedarville, 28-18, got its first one in the fifth inning when
Ryan Ledbetter's bloop fell just inside the right field line for a double.
Cam McWilliams was the only other CU runner to reach second base when he singled with one out in the sixth and moved up on
Chris Ward's two-out single.
Jordan Ammon, 5-2, took the loss in a complete-game effort. He fanned five batters and walked three.
It was Ammon, who combined with
Ryan Ledbetter, for a one-hit, 1-0 victory over Southeastern in NCCAA pool play last year. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie in 10 innings (time limit) in 2011.
