Box Score MASON, Ohio - No. 9 seed Oklahoma Christian came out of a lengthy weather delay and grabbed the momentum for a 5-2 win over No. 8 Cedarville in an NCCAA Division I World Series pool play contest at Legacy Field.
The Eagles, 26-25 overall, built a 4-0 lead and short-circuited a potential big inning by CU to claim the win.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth,
David Lenhardt and
David Ledbetter stroked consecutive RBI singles to trim the deficit to 4-2. A stolen base by Ledbetter had CU runners on second and third, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
Each team had nine hits in the game. Lenhardt and
Cam McWilliams totaled three hits apiece for the Yellow Jackets, 28-19.
Cedarville absorbed the biggest jolt coming out of the weather delay that hit with OCU batting in the top of the second inning.
After a stoppage in play that lasted 1:09, starting pitcher
Ryan Ledbetter, who struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, wasn't able to get loose despite throwing just 19 total pitches.
However, four different Yellow Jackets -
Sean Larkin,
Jordan Adams,
Garrett Baker, and
Steve Cardwell - took their turn on the mound in an attempt to keep the contest close the rest of the way.
