MASON, Ohio - Steve Cardwell had a big day at the plate and the Ledbetter twins teamed up for a solid pitching performance to lead the No. 8 seeded Yellow Jackets to a 9-2 victory over No. 4 Mount Vernon Nazarene at the NCCAA Division I World Series.
Cedarville wrapped up pool play and its season with an overall record of 29-19.
The Yellow Jackets had to come from behind twice. Cardwell singled in the first of his four RBI's in the top of the second inning to knot the score, 1-1.
After MVNU regained the lead, 2-1, in its half of the frame, Cedarville's bats broke out of their slumber. The Jackets sent ten men to the plate in the third to score six times to take command.
David Lenhardt and Dan Larkin had sacrifice flies sandwiched around an RBI single by Ryan Ledbetter for a 4-2 lead. Cardwell doubled just inside the third base bag for another run while Zach Huskey followed with a two-run single and a 7-2 bulge.
Cardwell completed the scoring in the fifth. He hammered a two-run homer to left field for his second long ball of the year.
That was more than enough support for winning pitcher David Ledbetter, 6-5. He allowed one earned run in six innings with six strikeouts and no walks. His twin brother pitched a hitless seventh to close it out.
It was the 20th career victory for David Ledbetter. He matched Charlie Wilkins (1963-66), Mark Mathews (1979-82) and T.J. Taylor (2008-11) for the most in school history.
Cardwell ended up 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBI's, and two runs scored. Ryan Ledbetter was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored.
Logan Kasabian had two hits to finish with a school-record 78 on the year. He also walked twice. Huskey chipped in two hits and two walks.
The Cougars end their season at 33-20.
