Too much Findlay for Yellow Jackets

Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio - NABC Division II #8 Findlay shot 57 percent from the field and opened its season by dealing Cedarville a 96-77 setback.

The Oilers needed less than three minutes to build a 15-5 lead and they pushed the spread to as much as 21 points late in the first half.

The hosts made 65 percent of their shots in the second half and converted 57 percent for the game.  They also outscored the Jackets from the line, 20-8.

Austin Pickett drained seven three-pointers and totaled a career-high 26 points. His previous high was set last year as a freshman with 18.

Marcus Reineke netted 11 points for Cedarville, 1-2, while Jason Cuffee chipped in 10.

The Yellow Jackets play at Grand Valley State (Mich.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Quotable:  Head Coach Pat Estepp

"We knew we would have our hands full playing Findlay especially at their place. There were periods where we looked good on both ends of the floor, but we gave them way too many layups.

"I thought we figured some things out in the second half, but every time we'd make a run they would answer. That's why they win. Hopefully, playing these types of teams will show us what it takes to be at that level."

Numbers Game:
  • Cedarville unloaded 39 three-pointers and made 11.
  • The Jackets struggled from the line again by making just 8-of-14.
  • CU (15) forced Findlay (21) into six more turnovers.
  • The Oilers' starters shot 31-for-44 (.705) from the field.
