Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Connor Scott's goal early in the second half held up and the Yellow Jacket defense did it's part as Cedarville won the G-MAC men's soccer title for the second straight year with a 1-0 result over Davis & Elkins.
It was a re-match of the 2013 final, won by CU on penalty kicks, and it remained scoreless until the 51st minute.
Christian Alexander crossed the ball in from the left corner and Scott rose high above the defense near the right post to head in his sixth goal of the season and third of the tournament.
The Yellow Jacket back line took it from there in matching the school record for single-season shutouts with 12 which was set last year.
Paulo Pinto made three saves while G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year
Jarrett Kersten cleared another ball off the line.
Cedarville is 14-4-2 and ran its winning streak to six consecutive matches. The Yellow Jackets' season is over unless they are awarded a Division II Midwest Region bid.
Quotables:From Head Coach Brett Faro ..."It was a similar game to what we thought it would be. Every time we play them it's a battle and we've created a little bit of a rivalry with Davis & Elkins over the last three years. They're a good team and we're a good team."
"I thought we fought hard and we took the chances that we had. It would've been nice to get a couple more goals and not have to fend off their attack because it's dangerous and they created some opportunities as well, but we'll take it."
From junior forward Christian Alexander ..."I thought we had some great chances in the first half, but we didn't put anything away. When the second half came around we were more confident.
"I got a ball wide and I saw
Connor Scott in and we've been working pretty well together the past couple months. I crossed it in and he smacked it into the back of the net. It was great!"
From senior forward Connor Scott ..."We said at the beginning of the game to make this a memory that we'll never forget. I think we did that. Thank the Lord that he gave us a win here. Hopefully, we were able to worship him through our performance today."
