Hot-shooting Lewis zaps Jackets

Box Score ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis bolted out to a big early lead and used hot shooting to sting Cedarville, 96-76, in non-conference action.

The Flyers, who are receiving votes in the latest NABC Division II poll, improve to 6-1. They were pre-season ranked #11.

The Yellow Jackets, 2-7, scored the first basket of the game for their only lead. Lewis was up by as much as 20 points before settling for a 51-32 bulge by halftime.

The hosts shot 59 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and were 8-for-11 outside the arc. They made 20-of-24 free throws in the second period.

Marcus Reineke, who was questionable prior to game time, came off the bench to pour in a game-high 32 points. J.C. Faubion chipped in 12.

Cedarville will negotiate finals week before playing a non-conference game at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp

"I knew this would be one of the tougher games on our schedule when we started the season. Lewis is as good as any team we have played this season.

"We were a little flat in the first half and the first five minutes of the second. Maybe we were tired a bit from our third consecutive weekend on the road. We would have had to played our best game of the year to play with Lewis the way they played the first 20 minutes.

"This was the third pre-season Top 25 team we have played in the last three weeks. No team in the country knows more of their flaws than we do after playing the caliber of teams we have played (Combined W/L record of 35-13).

"We played better in the second half. We just need to bottle up the best sections of a few of our games and put 40 minutes together. We will take a couple days off getting ready for finals then get back to work preparing for a very good Mount Vernon Nazarene team next Saturday."
