Jackets finish well; nab win at CSU

Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio - Marcus Reineke keyed a late-game flurry as Cedarville stunned host Central State, 57-56, to close out the regular season with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory.

The Yellow Jackets, 13-15 overall and 9-5 G-MAC, have won their last three games in a row and five of the last six. G-MAC Tournament pairings will be announced on Sunday.

CU trailed by as much as 11 points in the second half to the Marauders and was still in a 53-46 hole with 6:50 remaining. The visitors closed with an 11-3 run to steal the victory away from their Greene County rival.

Reineke scored nine of the 11 points with a trio of three-pointers including a bomb that gave the Jackets the lead for good with two minutes on the clock. Another trey by the senior made it 57-53 with 56 seconds to go.

After CSU closed to within a point on a three-pointer with 43 ticks to play, the last 20 seconds were wild.

Cedarville missed the front end of two one-and-ones and the Marauders failed to convert on two inside field goal attempts to account for the 57-56 final.

Reineke buried six three-pointers and finished with 22 points. Austin Pickett added 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Next Up: The Yellow Jackets play in the G-MAC First Round on Thursday in Philippi, W.Va. Game time is 7:30 p.m. EST.

Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp

"We have really grown up mentally this year and tonight was proof of that. We don't win that game in November and December.

"The game never had a good flow and offense was a bit of a struggle for both teams. We shot poorly in the first half despite having some good looks from the three-point line. Our biggest issue in the first half was keeping them off the boards.

"We were much more efficient in the second half on offense and rebounded much better. We had some guys step up and make some big plays late. A.P. (Pickett) rebounded really well, Marcus (Reineke) hit some big shots and Leighton (Smith) had some huge defensive plays after we missed some free throws in the final minute.

"We responded well in the second half on both ends of the floor. There will be some really good games next week in this tournament and we are excited to keep this season going as long as we can."
