BECKLEY, W.Va. - The Yellow Jackets exploded for an 18-5 victory at Alderson Broaddus in the second game of a G-MAC doubleheader at Epling Stadium.
The visitors salvaged a split after the Battlers pulled out a 5-4 decision in the first game.
In the nightcap, AB jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Cedarville's top six in the order took over. The group combined to score 15 runs with 17 hits featuring eight for extra bases.
Matthew Biermann drove in six runs on three hits with a double and
Brendan Toungate belted a grand slam to go along with an RBI double.
Payton Eeles and
Ross Melchior both reached base all six times they went to the plate. Melchior was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs while Eeles added three hits and four runs.
Markus Neff tallied three hits and two RBI with
Elijah Sanchez producing two hits and two RBI for the Jackets, 9-15 overall and 5-7 G-MAC. Starter and winner
Matt Yates, 2-1, pitched the first four innings.
Alderson Broaddus scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win the opener. Eeles had three hits with a double and Sanchez delivered a two-run triple.
Stinger Notes:
- In game two, CU's top six was a combined 17-for-26 with seven doubles, a homer, 15 runs, and 17 RBI.
- Melchior has a five-game hitting streak going 10-for-15 (.667) with 12 RBI.
- Biermann has 11 RBI in his last five outings.
- Eeles has six consecutive multi-hit games while hitting .615 (16-for-26).
- Toungate's grand slam was Cedarville's second in three games (Melchior).
- The Jackets also scored 18 runs earlier in the season in a win at Clark Atlanta.
