Yellow Jackets, Oaks trade one-run results

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville and Oakland City split a pair of one-run contests in a non-conference twinbill.

The Yellow Jackets outlasted the visitors, 6-5, in 12 innings in the first game and the Oaks scored twice in their final at bat to win the nightcap, 4-3.

Logan Eby's one-out double scored Elijah Sanchez with the 'walk off' winner in the first game. Sanchez opened the 12th inning with a walk and moved to second on Brendan Toungate's sacrifice.

Eby and Payton Eeles totaled four hits each and Toungate had two. Sanchez hit a solo home run and scored three times.

Reliever Noah Schleinitz, 1-2, pitched the final 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts to get the win.

In the seven-inning second game, Oakland City spoiled CU's three-run rally in the sixth inning. Eby's steal of home on the back end of a double steal with Micah Stewart had given the Jackets a 3-2 lead.

Five different players had singles for Cedarville, 10-18 overall.

Stinger Notes:
  • Eby and Eeles were both 5-for-9 in the doubleheader.
  • Pitchers Matt Yates, Riley Landrum, and Elliott Gilmore combined for 13 strikeouts in the second game.
  • Eleven games have been decided by two runs or less including the last four in a row.
  • Eeles extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games.
  • The two teams play a nine-inning single game in the series finale on Saturday.
