Max Doepker slugged two home runs, but Carson-Newman recovered to beat Cedarville, 8-6, in a non-conference game played at Lakeway Christian Academy.
Doepker put the Yellow Jackets on the board with a solo shot in the second inning and hit a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the score, 4-4.
He also drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh when CU extended its lead to 6-4.
However, the Eagles responded with four runs in their half of the seventh to account for the 8-6 final.
Doepker finished 2-for-4 with two long balls, a walk, stolen base, two runs scored, and four RBIs for the Jackets, 1-2.
Chris Montes de Oca had two hits including a double, two runs scored, and a walk.
Eli Henderson and
Grayson Weikel added two hits apiece for Cedarville, who finishes the series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
