CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets nearly swept a G-MAC doubleheader with Malone as the two teams opened a four-game series.
In the nine-inning first game, Cedarville led the whole way and after a brief scare in the sixth inning cruised to an 8-3 victory.
The Jackets got another strong outing from starting pitcher
Jensen Wagoner, 4-4, who went seven innings giving up just two earned runs and striking out seven.
Blake Werry tossed two hitless innings with two strikeouts while picking up his second save.
Max Doepker contributed four RBI on three hits, and
Grant Poindexter went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, and two runs scored.
The seven-inning second game was a pitching duel after Malone jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first inning.
CU scored a run in the fifth and then
Eli Henderson beat out a two-out RBI infield single in the seventh to tie it.
The Pioneers were able to engineer a run in the eighth to eventually pull out the win, 3-2.
Brody Adams and
Trey Tipton combined on the mound for ten strikeouts in eight innings, surrendering just two earned runs for Cedarville, 15-23 overall and 9-13 G-MAC.
