CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Yellow Jackets earned a doubleheader sweep over Thomas More and a berth in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament by winning the opener 11-5 before taking the nightcap 4-2.
The program returns to the G-MAC Championship at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio for the first time in four seasons when the eight-team event gets underway on May 6.
Cedarville used timely hitting and a big eighth inning to pull away in Game 1. After scoring three runs in the second inning, the Yellow Jackets added three more in the fourth and broke the game open with four runs in the eighth.
Eli Henderson led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while
Grant Poindexter recorded three hits and scored three times.
Micah George added two RBI, and
Danny DeMoss highlighted the effort with a run-scoring triple.
On the mound,
Jensen Wagoner delivered a strong outing, pitching eight innings and allowing just three earned runs while striking out seven to earn the win.
In Game 2, Cedarville capitalized early and relied on pitching to secure the sweep. A three-run third inning proved to be the difference maker, sparked by
Micah George's bases-clearing double.
Graham Ward later added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to finish the scoring.
Brody Adams turned in an impressive start in the nightcap, striking out 11 batters over 5.2 innings to earn the victory.
Trey Tipton closed the door with 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.
The Yellow Jackets now have won five in a row, improving their record to 21-25 overall and 15-15 in the G-MAC.
