Senior day sweep for Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — CU earned a doubleheader sweep over Thomas More on Friday, winning Game 1 by a 1-0 score before completing the sweep with an 11-1 victory in Game 2.

Game 1 featured a pitcher's duel, with both teams held scoreless through seven innings. The Yellow Jackets broke through in the bottom of the eighth when Chris Montes de Oca delivered a walk-off RBI single to center field, scoring Riley Finkelston for the game's only run.

Nathaniel Adkins was dominant from the mound, tossing 7.2 scoreless innings while allowing seven hits and striking out four to earn the win.

In the Game 2 seven inning contest, Cedarville's bats came alive. Trailing early, the Yellow Jackets erupted for six runs in the third inning to seize control and never looked back. They added two runs in the fourth and continued to build the lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Max Doepker led the offensive outburst, going 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and three runs scored. Austin Plisky added three hits and two RBI, as the team totaled 12 hits in the nightcap.

On the mound, Owen Shimmel secured the Game 2 win with four scoreless innings in relief, striking out three and allowing just two hits.

The Yellow Jackets have now won seven in a row, finishing the regular season at 23-25 overall and 17-15 in G-MAC play.

They will return to action next at the G-MAC Championship at Prasco Park, which gets underway on May 6.
