CU downs Rio in home opener

Beals joins 1,000 Point Club

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ricardo Alliman tallied 24 points to lead the NAIA Division II #15 Yellow Jackets to a 96-72 win over Rio Grande in the first round of the 32nd Annual Cedarville Invitational.

CU, 3-2 overall, meets NAIA Division I Trevecca Nazarene, a 72-62 winner over Point Park, in the championship game.

Alliman needed just 22 minutes to put up his game-high scoring tally in the Callan Athletic Center. He also pulled down nine rebounds.

Chris Beals finished with 15 points and became the 47th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. Derrick Hannon totaled 14 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals, and Austin Foote came off the bench with 10 points.

The Jackets set four school records in a 157-91 frolic over the Red Storm 13 days ago. This time, CU led 51-32 at halftime and then shot 58 percent in the second half to inflate the margin to as much as 34 points. [STATS]

In the opener, Trevecca Nazarene bolted to a 38-10 lead midway through the first half against Point Park only to squander it and then some. The Pioneers rallied to actually take the lead 59-56 with just under six minutes left. The Trojans finished the game with a 16-2 spurt to ice it. [TNU/PPU STATS]
