CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cumberlands (Ky.) took the early lead in singles and made the advantage stand up in a 6-3 non-conference win over the Yellow Jackets at the Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex.
With the doubleheader also involving the two schools' women's teams on the nine courts, the men opened with singles play. The Patriots claimed points in the top four positions all in straight sets. CU's Kyle Kirby was a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 winner at #5 singles while #6 Zach Rost posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
In doubles, #2 Caleb Speicher and Kyle DeBoer pulled off an 8-3 decision. The #1 tandem of Kevin Furst and Brent Martin dropped a 9-8 match via a tiebreaker.
It was the second meeting of the season between the two schools. Cumberlands won, 7-2, in Williamsburg, Ky. on March 7. [RESULTS]
