CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ricardo Alliman tallied 23 points including the game-winning three-point play as NAIA Division II #22 Cedarville stunned #2 Walsh, 73-72, in an American Mideast Conference game played before a noisy crowd in the Callan Athletic Center.
Alliman's lay-up and free throw accounted for the final score with 58.8 seconds to go, but it was not without an exciting finish. Walsh misfired on a three-pointer, got the offensive rebound, and was fouled with 45.2 seconds remaining only to miss both free throws.
Cedarville waited too long on its possession and committed a shot clock violation with 8.4 seconds left on the board. The Cavaliers got off a highly-contested shot in the lane in the final seconds with the rebound being slapped toward midcourt to end it.
The Yellow Jackets, 13-7 overall and 5-2 AMC, led 34-33 at halftime but fell into a 53-43 deficit midway through the second half. Chris Beals sparked a 23-6 run with one string of eight straight points by himself for a 66-59 CU advantage at the 5:30 mark. The Cavaliers scored 11 of the next 15 points before Alliman's winning play.
Alliman added 10 rebounds to his effort to finish with a double-double. Beals netted 16 of his 19 points in the second half. Derrick Hannon and Matt Harner chipped in 10 points apiece. Walsh had it's nine-game winning streak snapped to fall to 19-2 and 8-1 AMC. [STATS]
