Jackets outhit Shawnee for first AMC win

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Kayla Thornsberry had three hits including a homer and winning pitcher Missy Murphy helped herself at the plate with two hits to pace Cedarville to an 11-9 victory over Shawnee State. The Bears won the first game of the American Mideast Conference doubleheader, 3-0.

Thornsberry sparked back-to-back big innings for the Lady Jackets. Her leadoff single got CU going during a five-run 3rd inning. She opened the 4th with a long home run to begin a four-run frame that opened up a 9-2 lead.

Murphy improved her pitching record to 5-3 by going 6 2/3 innings. She tripled in a run and singled in another to aid the team's 13-hit attack.

Paige Stewart recorded two hits including an RBI double and scored twice. Emily Young was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI's, and a stolen base for Cedarville, 9-14 overall and 1-1 AMC. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

Cedarville was locked down on just four hits in the opener. Stewart doubled with singles coming from Murphy, Meghan Creech, and Kendra Kassonie. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
