PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Lady Jackets nearly let a six-run lead slip away before escaping with a 9-8 victory at Ursuline to wrap up an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The host Arrows won the opener, 5-0.
Ursuline came to its final at bat trailing 9-3, but the Arrows erupted for five runs to make things interesting. Emily Young came on to retire the final batter for the save in relief of winning pitcher Jillian French, who struck out 10 batters.
Cedarville, 12-21 overall and 3-5 AMC, scored four times in its first at bat. Jenna Fox singled in a run, Young doubled in another, and Missy Murphy applied the finishing touch with a two-run homer.
Kayla Thornsberry was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Fox, Young, and Kenleigh Ludlow produced two hits apiece. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
The Lady Jackets were blanked in the first game despite outhitting Ursuline, 8-6. Kendra Kassonie slapped three hits, Paige Stewart added two, and Young and Brittany Lawhorn each had doubles.
