LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Yellow Jackets' 4 x 400 meter relay squad erased the oldest outdoor school record in the books with a winning effort at the University of Louisville Classic.
The foursome of Brandon Tress, Justin Hoffman, Michael Beight, and Sammy Starr torched the track in a time of 3:12.47 to take nearly three full seconds off the previous mark. The effort was more than four seconds faster than what the quartet ran just six days ago at the NCCAA Championship.
The old school record in the 4 x 400 was 3:15.30 set back in 1974. The group that held the mark for 36 years was Jon Mitchell, Steve Gruber, Barrett Luketic, and Mark Green. That makes Green's 47.64 clocking in the 400 meter dash in 1975 as the "new" oldest school record.
Hoffman added a solid performance in the 110 meter hurdles. He placed 2nd in 14.70 seconds.
The meet was non-scoring. The Yellow Jackets wrap up the season on May 27-29 at the NAIA Outdoor Championship at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
