Cedarville gains split with Taylor

DAYTON, Ohio - Tyler Rost homered and drove in three runs to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 10-5 victory over NAIA No. 23 Taylor to salvage a split of their non-conference doubleheader played at Wright State's Nischwitz Stadium. The Trojans won the opener, 4-0.

Cedarville, 13-4 overall, took the lead for good in the nightcap by pushing across four runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Paul Hembekides' two-run double turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 advantage. Rost followed with an RBI groundout and Nate Davenport added a run with a sacrifice fly.

Andrew York singled in two runs and Derek Ogle delivered an RBI single during a three-run 4th inning. The Jackets put it away in the 5th when Rost hammered a 2-0 pitch off the scoreboard in right field for a two-run homer.

Rost finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI's. Alex Beelen was 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot and scored three times. Ogle had two hits and York totaled three RBI's.

Winning pitcher Cullen Montgomery improved to 3-0. He allowed four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. Reliever Rob Wasem allowed two hits but recorded two strikeouts to end it.

Cedarville was shut down in the opener. The Yellow Jackets had not scored fewer than five runs in their previous 15 games.

The hosts were limited to three hits - a double by Rob Nesteroff and singles by Rost and Dan Petke.
