Shawnee State flattens Yellow Jackets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Shawnee State spotted host Cedarville an early lead and then coasted to an 11-5 non-conference victory in the home opener for the Yellow Jackets.

CU got on the board first by scoring twice in the 2nd inning. Nate Davenport doubled down the left field line and then moved to third on a base hit by Andrew York.

After York stole second, Nesteroff drove in Davenport with a groundout. Dan Petke followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.

Then, it was all Shawnee State. The Bears scored twice in the 3rd inning, added a single run in the 4th, and then broke it open in the 5th when they pushed four runs across the plate, three of which were unearned.

The visitors blew the spread out to 11-2 after seven innings. The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th to account for the final.

York and Alex Beelen finished with two hits apiece for Cedarville, 13-5 overall. York also stole two bases and Paul Hembekides added a double.

Shawnee State, 17-15, totaled 14 hits with 12 of those being singles. Five of the Bears' runs were unearned thanks to five CU errors.
