NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Nate Davenport established a new single-season doubles record for the Yellow Jackets, who traded blowout decisions at Walsh in American Mideast Conference action.
Davenport belted a grand slam and added an RBI double as Cedarville rolled to a 10-4 victory in the opener. The two-base hit was his 20th of the season which broke the previous mark of 19 set by Paul Wilson in 2008. The homer was Davenport's team-high seventh.
Alex Beelen was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Paul Hembekides, #Juan Martinez, Jr.#, Rob Nesteroff, and Dan Petke contributed two hits each to the Jackets' 15-hit attack.
Winning pitcher Cullen Montgomery got through the first five innings and upped his record to 6-1. Logan Kasabian allowed just one hit over the last two innings.
In the second game, Cedarville scored twice in its first at bat. However, the Cavaliers took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning when they put the contest away by scoring seven times. It ended, 13-3, in the sixth via the 10-run mercy rule.
The Yellow Jackets, 25-10 overall and 6-4 AMC, managed just five hits, but three were doubles including Davenport's 21st of the year. Beelen and Martinez, Jr. also doubled.
Walsh is 16-21 and 2-8 AMC.
