DAYTON, Ohio - Andrew York tossed eight strong innings and the Yellow Jackets blanked Urbana, 5-0, in the Sixth Annual Cedarville Classic at Fifth Third Field.
York, a senior righthander, allowed just three hits while striking out six with one walk. Rob Wasem retired the three batters he faced in the ninth inning to secure the win for the Jackets, 26-10 overall.
Cedarville got the only run it needed in the fourth inning. Alex Beelen scored from third on a throwing error when Tyler Rost stole second.
The Jackets added a run in the fourth when Rob Nesteroff doubled and later scored on a double by Derek Ogle.
CU put it away in the seventh by scoring twice after the first two batters were retired. Paul Hembekides singled and scored on a triple by Rost. He trotted home on an RBI single by Nate Davenport. A sacrifice fly by #Juan Martinez, Jr.# in the eighth plated Nesteroff to complete the scoring.
Davenport, Hembekides, Rost, and Dan Petke had two hits each. The contest attracted 656 fans to the home of the Dayton Dragons as the Jackets squared their all-time record in the Classic to 3-3.
