XENIA, Ohio - Freshman righthander David Ledbetter spun a complete game and Andrew York stroked three hits as the Yellow Jackets rallied for a 3-2 AMC victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene at the Athletes in Action Complex. The Cougars won the first game of the doubleheader, 12-6.
Cedarville spotted the visitors a 2-0 lead through two innings of the second contest. The Jackets got one back in the third when pinch runner Cameron McWilliams scored on a two-out passed ball.
The home team took the lead in the fifth inning when it strung together five of its eight hits. Dan Petke led off with a double and was replaced on the base paths by McWilliams, who scored on Alex Beelen's single to forge a 2-2 deadlock.
Paul Hembekides singled Beelen to third and Tyler Rost followed with an RBI single. CU loaded the bases with one out, but failed to add to its 3-2 margin.
Ledbetter hit the MVNU leadoff batter in the sixth inning and then retired the final six hitters in a row to improve his record to 5-1. He allowed five hits and struck out three.
York was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases for the Yellow Jackets, 29-13 overall and 9-7 AMC. Petke was 2-for-3 and McWilliams scored twice.
The Cougars rolled in the opener after breaking a 1-1 tie with four runs in the second inning. The bulge swelled to leads of 10-1 and 12-2 before the Jackets finished with four runs in their final at bat.
Nate Davenport was 3-for-4 which included his team-high eighth home run of the season. The solo shot gives him 51 RBI's on the year breaking the previous single-season school record of 50 set by Matt Houchin in 2008.
Rost had two hits and a stolen base. York and Rob Nesteroff each drove in a pair of runs.
