CEDARVILLE, Ohio - #T.J. Taylor and David Ledbetter# tied up Malone with complete-game performances as the Yellow Jackets swept a rain-delayed American Mideast Conference twinbill from the Pioneers, 5-0 and 7-1.
It was redemption for the Jackets, who just 48 hours earlier dropped the first two of the four-game series at Malone. CU pitching allowed only nine hits in the two losses, and this time, Taylor and Ledbetter were just as stingy by surrendering a total of nine hits and no earned runs.
The doubleheader was delayed three hours by rain, but Taylor was still sharp in the opener. He spun a four-hitter striking out eight batters and walking one to improve his record to 4-2.
The senior lefthander received all the run support he needed when CU plated three runs in the first inning. Alex Beelen finished 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Nate Davenport tripled in a run and scored twice while Tyler Rost produced an RBI double.
In the nightcap, Ledbetter spotted the visitors an unearned run in the third inning before settling down to remain unbeaten at 4-0. The rookie righthander gave up five hits, all singles, with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Cedarville took the lead for good by scoring four runs in the third inning. They added three more in the fourth.
Rost was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Yellow Jackets, 23-9 overall and 5-3 AMC. Davenport was 3-for-4 and scored twice, Michael Roe drove in two runs, and Andrew York scored two runs.
Malone is 25-15 and 3-5 AMC.
