Yellow Jackets close regular season on high note

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Paul Hembekides drove in four runs and six Cedarville pitchers combined on a three-hitter to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 8-1 non-conference victory over Ohio Christian in the regular season finale.

CU, 31-16 overall, heads to the NCCAA Midwest Regional in Spring Arbor, Mich. with its second-winningest season to date. The 2009 squad won 32 games.

The Jackets surrendered an unearned run in the first inning against OCU. Once Hembekides cleared the bases with a three-run double in the third, Cedarville held on to the momentum.

Hembekides finished 3-for-5 with four RBI's. Dan Petke was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. The junior catcher also picked a runner off second base - his seventh pickoff of the year.

Nate Davenport had a pair of hits including a triple. David Ledbetter, who started the game as the DH, was 2-for-2 at the plate.

Ledbetter was the third in a contingent of Yellow Jacket pitchers to take the mound and was credited with the victory to push his record to 6-1. The freshman righthander allowed one hit in two innings of work with four strikeouts.
