Marcus Reineke scored 21 points including a key three-pointer in the final minute of play to propel Cedarville to a 71-65 victory at Salem International in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.
It's the first two-game winning streak of the season for the Yellow Jackets, 7-12 overall and 4-2 G-MAC. Salem slips to 2-14 and 0-7.
Cedarville appeared to be in business when it broke the seventh tie of the game early in the second half. The guests slowly pulled out to a 66-57 advantage with 4:20 remaining.
However, the Tigers clawed back with eight straight points to cut the difference to one at the 1:06 mark. That's when Reineke stepped up.
The senior guard buried a three-pointer from the right corner for a 69-65 lead with 40 seconds left. He followed that with a steal and
J.C. Faubion accounted for the final with a pair of late three throws.
Faubion finished with 14 points off the bench.
Leighton Smith came through with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets' ramped up the shooting in the second period to overcome a 33-32 halftime deficit. Over the final 20 minutes, they shot 64 percent from the field including 5-for-10 from deep.
Next Up: Cedarville entertains Wilberforce in a non-conference contest on Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp"Once again, I was really proud of our guys today! We kept our focus and our heads up even though we couldn't buy a three-pointer in the first half.
"J.C. (Faubion) gave us some good minutes, especially in the first half when (Jason) Cuffee got in foul trouble. We defended pretty well, but we just gave them a few too many extra possessions with turnovers.
"I thought we showed toughness in the second half and had some guys who had struggled shooting in the first half step up and knock down big shots in the second half."
Numbers Game:- Reineke had his string of 16 consecutive free throws made snapped, but he's still shooting .906 for the season.
