Surging CU grabs third straight victory

Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets recovered from a lackluster first half and pulled away for a 91-73 non-conference win over Wilberforce in the Callan Athletic Center.

Marcus Reineke pumped in 25 points to lead the way and Easton Bazzoli tallied a career-high 19. It was the third win in a row for Cedarville, 8-12 overall.

The Jackets cruised to leads of 16-4 and 27-15 during the opening minutes. However, it was a 36-36 tie when the halftime buzzer sounded.

Once the visiting Bulldogs took their first and only lead, 39-38, CU decided to ramp up its game with a seven-point spurt.

It was a five-point margin when the Jackets broke away thanks to a 17-7 run. The largest lead was 82-63 when Bazzoli dropped in a three-pointer at the 3:11 mark.

Reineke hit 9-of-12 shots from the field and was 6-for-6 at the line in 26 minutes of action. He added five rebounds and four assists.

Austin Pickett chipped in 12 points. Patrick Bain, J.C. Faubion, and Leighton Smith added eight points each.

Next Up: Cedarville hosts Central State on Saturday at 7:45 p.m during Alumni Basketball Weekend and Hall of Fame Weekend.

Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp

"This was a good game for us. I thought we got off to a very good start and then got too careless with the ball and too stagnant on offense.

"But give Wilberforce credit. Terry's (Futrell) team always plays hard and they really hurt us on the boards. I felt we settled for jumpers too much in the first half, but did a better job attacking them in the second half. We were unselfish and efficient on offense ... outside of the turnovers.

"We are going to have to rebound better and take better care of the ball this weekend. I was proud of the way we played the second half. We just need to find a way to be more productive for the first 20 minutes."
